Rob Portman Addresses Top Staff at Republican Governors Association
Charleston, SC - Today Rob Portman addressed governors' office senior staff at the annual Republican Governors Association Senior Staff Retreat in Charleston, South Carolina.
In his keynote speech, Portman talked about fiscal discipline, trade, ethics, Ohio's economy, and the importance of the upcoming presidential and gubernatorial elections. He also stated that the 2008 election will set the framework for years to come.
Portman stressed that GOP leaders must have experience and expertise to know how to build consensus, a willingness to take on special interests in favor of the national interest, and most importantly, a commitment to focusing on results.
"I'm glad to be here with the Republican Governors Association and to discuss the challenges and opportunities our states face," said Portman.
Portman added that Senator John McCain is the Presidential candidate who has the record, experience and message that represents these principles.
"Each year national leaders share their ideas and advice with governors' senior staff," said RGA Executive Director Nick Ayers. "Given the fiscal and economic challenges facing states, Rob was the perfect fit. His clear and candid remarks will help governors' staff develop solutions to the many challenges facing America."
The Republican Governors Association holds an annual staff retreat to give governors' office senior staff members an opportunity to exchange ideas and information about important issues and to strategize about upcoming elections.
Rob Portman previously served in Congress for 12 years, as U.S. Trade Representative, and Director of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget.
